Travel by Car:
The easiest way to travel from Split to Rome is via Ancona. From Split to Ancona there is a direct ferry (every day, whole year), and from Ancona continue via highway to Rome. Travel distance from Ancona to Rome is 310 kilometers and the route goes via the Italian highway where toll fees apply. If you want to avoid ferry there is also option to travel from Split to Rijeka via Croatian highway and continue to Rome via Trieste, Venice and Bologna. In this case travel distance from Split to Rome is 1160 kilometres and an estimated driving time of about 11 hours.
Travel by Bus:
There is no direct bus on this route. The easiest option is to travel by ferry from Split to Ancona, and with bus continue to Rome. It is although possible to travel with bus from Split to Zagreb
, and then continue with another bus from Zagreb to Rome, the rome bus runs once a week from Zagreb.
